A series of severe weather events have impacted central and northeastern Maryland, with multiple warnings and watches issued over the past few days. On May 25, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Washington County, Maryland, with the storm moving east at 25 mph and potential wind gusts of 60 mph. The storm also brought dangerous lightning and heavy downpours. On May 27, severe thunderstorms moved into the area, with a warning issued for northwest Carroll County, where storms were moving northeast at 40 mph. These storms posed risks of intense cloud-to-ground lightning, damaging winds, and potential power outages. Additionally, a Tornado Watch was issued for much of Maryland, including Washington D.C., Richmond, Raleigh, and the Outer Banks, until 11 PM on May 27. The storms were capable of producing tornadoes, hail up to the size of ping pong balls, and wind gusts up to 70 mph. Embedded thunderstorms showed some signs of weakening, but clouds and occasional showers kept the severe weather risk low. Storms were expected to be isolated to widely scattered from 4 PM through 10 PM. Residents were advised to stay indoors and away from windows as the severe weather continued to pose significant risks.

FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY CONTINUES: Here's our latest thinking. Storms will be isolated to widely scattered 4 PM through 10 PM. Not everywhere gets storms this evening, but places that do could see damaging winds, hail, & stray tornado. Threat quickly ends after 10p. @WJZ https://t.co/Vjb1k0hJ17
STRONG STORMS POSSIBLE: Clouds and occasional showers have kept the severe weather risk LOW, which has been great news. We're still not out of the woods just yet. A few isolated strong to severe storms with damaging winds and hail are possible, but not everywhere gets them. @WJZ https://t.co/tpQ6oHGQPz
