China's securities regulator has announced a series of measures aimed at tightening oversight and reforming the country's capital markets. The China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) has vowed to maintain a 'zero-tolerance' stance on illegal activities, including cracking down on financial fraud among listed companies. CSRC Chairman Wu Qing emphasized the importance of strengthening regulatory measures and encouraging whistle-blowers. The regulator also approved the IPO of autonomous driving startup Momenta in New York and granted HSBC Qianhai Securities permission to engage in margin financing and securities lending. Additionally, BNP Paribas China was approved as a custodian of securities investment funds. The CSRC plans to enrich ETF and ETF options products on the STAR Market, accelerate the filing process for Chinese companies listing overseas, and increase support for tech innovation and mergers. These measures were discussed at the Lujiazui Forum and come as more Chinese firms seek offshore listings due to stricter domestic regulations. Chinese stocks deemed risky by mainland exchanges have tumbled following the government's vow to set higher standards for staying listed.
