China has connected its first offshore wind farm with an ultra-large single-unit capacity of 13 MW and above to the grid in southeast Fujian province on Thursday. The 400-MW project is expected to generate 1.6 billion kWh of clean power annually, meeting the energy needs of 680,000 households. This milestone comes as China is set to see the cost of offshore wind power dip below that of coal-generated electricity for the first time this year. The countryβs installed power generation capacity increased 14.1% year-on-year to 3.04 billion kW by the end of May, with solar power surging 52.2% and wind power growing 20.5%, according to the National Energy Administration.
