Armenia and Azerbaijan, which have been in conflict for three decades, have traded fresh barbs after France pledged to supply new arms to Yerevan. On June 19, the French President's Chief of Military Staff, Army General Fabien Mandon, and Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan held a meeting in Paris to discuss bilateral defense cooperation. Azerbaijan accused France of pursuing a policy of militarization and geopolitical intrigue in the region, and of preventing the normalization of relations between Yerevan and Baku. Armenia is currently in a security vacuum and relies on individual alliances for its security.
