Since Elon Musk's takeover of X, formerly known as Twitter, users have reported significant changes to the platform's algorithm and user experience. Many influencers and users with large followings have observed a drastic reduction in the reach and engagement of their posts. For example, accounts with over 50,000 followers are now struggling to get even 2,000 views per post, compared to hundreds of thousands or millions previously. One user noted their posts were viewed less than 11 million times, with viewership dropping by 80 to 90 percent for many accounts. Users have also noted an increase in irrelevant viral posts dominating their timelines, leading to confusion and disappointment. The platform's shift towards a Facebook/TikTok hybrid model has been criticized for undermining the aspects that originally made it appealing.
I am by far the "least viewed" influencer account on X. With over 405,000 followers, 98% of my posts get fewer than 2000 views. There is no rational explanation for this other than intentional suppression by X. @elonmusk https://t.co/YVDCKV9OY0
What has happened to X? Here are my impressions: yesterday, my posts were viewed less than 11 million times. Virtually all the accounts I follow have seen their viewership drop by 80 to 90 percent. So, I am not the only one. Many accounts are affected, probably including yours. https://t.co/jwFUp9pRjW
6 posts, identical views. Could it be more obvious X is using an algorithm to limit the reach of my feed? @elonmusk @support https://t.co/i27WxeNm8G
Is X suppressing my feed? Everyone with over 50,000 followers was getting 100's of thousands if not millions of views on every post after the debate while I struggle to get 2000. STOP HIDING MY FEED DAMMIT! @elonmusk https://t.co/vii7xxF9hS
Quite a lot of noise on Twitter in recent months. To be fair, you still find relevant stuff occasionally. But it looks the algorithm is overloading the TL with more irrelevant viral posts for multiple days, rather than useful tweets with minimal engagements.
Since Elon's takeover, I've seen way more confusion and disappointment with the lack of follower growth on X than prior. It's because old Twitter was slowly dying but covered it up with excessive bot engagement and Elon's philosophical changes haven't slowed its decline. 🧵
So X now tries to be a Facebook/Tiktok hybrid, likely with the aim of growth, to attract users by stuff that makes you angry. It's also better at reinforcing stereotypes now. Ironically, all that harms those aspects of this platform which made it interesting in the first place.
