Users of the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, are expressing frustration over recent changes to its algorithm. The new algorithm appears to prioritize negative and controversial content, often referred to as 'ragebait,' which is causing an influx of undesirable posts. Users have reported seeing content that promotes white supremacy, recycled TikToks, and NSFW material, rather than the content from accounts they follow. Additionally, some users have experienced issues with their profiles, such as not showing the accounts they follow. Observers suggest that X's shift towards a Facebook/TikTok hybrid model aims to drive user engagement through provocative content, but this strategy is undermining the platform's original appeal. Reform supporters and controversial clips are also part of the new content strategy aimed at growth.
So X now tries to be a Facebook/Tiktok hybrid, likely with the aim of growth, to attract users by stuff that makes you angry. It's also better at reinforcing stereotypes now. Ironically, all that harms those aspects of this platform which made it interesting in the first place.
What's going on with X? My profile says I'm not following anyone!
If you're wondering where all the recent crap on X is coming from... It seems that "ragebait" content farms generate controversial clips that go viral and the new X algo no longer is able to filter them out. So basically X is Tik Tok now... https://t.co/Toyw0AxiVT
What the hell has happened to Twitter / X ? I no longer see any of the (military) content from the people I follow. Instead I get recycled TikToks full of NSFW crap. Anyone know how to fix this?
What is up with the X algorithm? It seems to reward negativity. I challenged a white suprematist and replied to threads challenging some dodgy polls shared by Reform supporters —now my feed is full white pride bullcrap and pro-Reform content. It does not make for a pleasant…
