The upcoming UK general election on July 4 is seeing significant political shifts among British Muslim and Palestinian voters, largely influenced by the Labour Party's stance on Gaza. Naz Shah, the Labour candidate for Bradford West, faces a tough re-election battle as Keir Starmer's track record on Gaza has angered many voters. 'We’ve got a long way to go for that trust to be rebuilt,' Shah says. Afzal Khan, Labour candidate for Manchester Rusholme, also acknowledges the widespread anti-Labour sentiment in the Muslim community. Human rights activist and independent candidate for Ilford North, Leanne Mohamad, criticizes both Labour and the Conservatives, equating a vote for either party to a vote for genocide. Additionally, polling from YouGov suggests that 29% of Pakistani and Bangladeshi voters intend to vote Green, largely as a protest against Labour's stance on Gaza. The election also features a notable presence of British Palestinian candidates advocating against UK complicity in Israel's actions and for an end to austerity politics. Palestine solidarity Brits are expected to sway the election outcome.
Many of the British Palestinian candidates standing for election are drawing parallels between the UK's foreign policy - including its strident support for Israel's war on Gaza - and attacks on living standards and the vulnerable at home👇 https://t.co/K8z2uJNzqx
Extremely interesting polling from YouGov. Suggests 29% of Pakistani and Bangladeshi voters intend to vote Green. That's something I would never have believed a year ago. But have increasingly heard people say it — largely as a protest vote against Labour over Gaza. https://t.co/eQRM8un0oG
