Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) $TSM has announced its plans for the semiconductor industry in Japan, including the goal to achieve 60% local procurement for its first chip plant in the country by 2030. The company, recognized as one of the most influential semiconductor firms globally, is set to begin shipping logic chips for camera sensors and cars from its inaugural facility in Kumamoto by the end of this year. This development is part of TSMC's broader strategy to establish multiple plants in Japan. The initiative was highlighted during a visit by Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to the Kumamoto site, where TSMC is also developing a second facility.
