Katie Pumphrey, an ultra-marathon swimmer from Maryland, successfully completed a historic 24-mile nonstop swim from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to Baltimore's Inner Harbor. She began her swim at 3:17am on Tuesday, jumping off a boat and swimming to the shore of Sandy Point State Park. The swim, which took approximately 12-13 hours, was undertaken to celebrate the milestone of a swimmable Baltimore. Pumphrey was accompanied by a media boat and her family, with live updates provided by various news outlets. At mile 14.2, seven and a half hours into the swim, she approached the Key Bridge with the water temperature at 82 degrees. She arrived at the Inner Harbor in the evening, marking the end of her challenging journey.
