Emma Weyant, a Tokyo medalist, finished just behind her with a time of 4:35.56, as expected. Lilla Bognar took third place. Grimes, who was already on Team USA for open water, will also compete in the 200 freestyle later in the night. The event was broadcast on NBC and Peacock.

Katie Grimes was already on Team USA for open water, but she just punched her ticket to Paris for the pool with a 4:35.00 win in the 400m IM over Emma Weyant, a Tokyo medalist who finished just behind at 4:35.56
