Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Andrzej Szejna, in an interview with Rzeczpospolita, welcomed the idea of hosting German troops on Polish soil for the first time since World War II, to strengthen NATO's eastern flank as done in Lithuania. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, in discussions about a Ukrainian-Polish alliance within the EU, stated that such an alliance would make both countries stronger. In a statement to ABC News, Kuleba also vowed that Ukrainians would fight with shovels if they ran out of weapons, and suggested that more financial aid for Ukraine could prevent a direct confrontation between NATO and Russia.
