Recent solar activities have caused significant geomagnetic storms and auroras on both Earth and Mars. The Aditya-L1 mission by ISRO has captured several X-class and M-class solar flares during May 2024, leading to geomagnetic storms and auroras visible as far as Ladakh, India. Instruments like the Solar Ultra Violet Imaging Telescope (SUIT) and the Visible Emission Line Coronagraph (VELC) aboard Aditya-L1 have documented these events. NASA's MAVEN orbiter and Curiosity rover have also observed the effects of these solar flares on Mars, including planet-engulfing auroras and radiation surges. The recent solar radiation storm was the strongest since September 2017, with notable flares including an M5.5 and an X1.6 flare between June 9 and 10. Additional observations were made by XPoSat, CH-2 Orbiter, and in-situ payloads ASPEX and MAG on Aditya-L1 during May 14-20.

Over the past month, our @NASAMars rovers and orbiters have given us a front-row seat to solar storms on the Red Planet. We're tracking flares and coronal mass ejections – even auroras – to study how these events unfold in deep space: https://t.co/fHPSvWboqf https://t.co/m6XaBdc9JL

Planet-engulfing auroras on Mars? 🤯 In May, the Red Planet was hit by a massive solar flare and subsequent coronal mass ejection, and the MAVEN orbiter captured this data with its ultraviolet instrument. https://t.co/sQOURwUC2L https://t.co/zJxtJWYlYn
See those moving specks? Recently, my routine dust monitoring coincided with a major solar event hitting the Red Planet, and the charged particles that hit my camera caused distortions.
