Several members of the U.S. Congress have introduced legislation aimed at addressing mental health support in schools and for healthcare professionals. The Expanding Access to Mental Health Services in Schools Act, introduced by Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, aims to increase the number of mental health professionals in schools. Additionally, the Safe Schools Improvement Act, introduced by Representatives Mark Takano and Linda Sanchez, seeks to combat hate crimes in schools. The Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act, passed in 2022, has inspired Representative Susan Wild to introduce legislation to reauthorize the law, ensuring continued critical mental health support for physicians. Senator Tim Kaine is also introducing legislation to renew support for healthcare workers' mental health care and address burnout.
Healthcare professionals dedicate their lives to patients, often at their own expense. Joined colleagues in introducing legislation to address the mental & behavioral health conditions drs & nurses face & continue reducing stigmas around mental health care.https://t.co/y5AC1slHIj
A few years ago, I got a bill signed into law that provided health care workers with critical mental health care and resources. We've got to make sure that care continues. That's why I'm introducing legislation to renew this support and address burnout. https://t.co/rALXITo0iH
At @Labor_Caucus today, we joined @NEAToday's @BeckyPringle to discuss educator shortages. Along with fair wages & better working conditions, mental health supports are needed! Thankfully, @VP just announced $285M to hire 14,000+ mental health professionals in schools. https://t.co/ea8yP4Jun0

Today, I joined my @Labor_Caucus colleagues in meeting with @NEAToday President Becky Pringle to discuss how we can help our nation's educators. Students are far more likely to use mental health services when they are accessible in their school building. That is why I introduced the Expanding Access to Mental Health Services in Schools Act, to help ensure that every school has a trained, mental health professional. https://t.co/w0IgSvkZY4
Hate crimes in schools are on the rise. That's why @RepLindaSanchez and I are fighting for the Safe Schools Improvement Act so all students can succeed and live free from fear. https://t.co/Eld7h93EgO

Robust mental health services in schools should be the norm, not the exception, and the Expanding Access to Mental Health Services in Schools Act gets us one step closer to achieving that goal. Thank you for your leadership, @rosadelauro. https://t.co/x2zDJMy8TK
