Republican congresswoman Nancy Mace, who was once an ally of ousted House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, has grown to mistrust him and vice versa. Mace cast a vote to remove McCarthy from his position. She stated that voting McCarthy out was the right move at the right time. Mace has been wearing a t-shirt with the letter "A" on it, referring to it as her "Scarlet letter." She explained that she is wearing it after being demonized for her vote and voice as a woman in Congress. Mace has also endorsed Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan for Speakership. The redrawing of district lines in 2022 played a role in Mace joining those who ousted McCarthy.
