A series of legal proceedings related to the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol has resulted in multiple convictions and guilty pleas. Fall River Police Officer Nicholas M. Hoar was convicted of assaulting a man in custody with a baton and failing to report the assault. Former Boston Police Officer Joseph Fisher of Plymouth, MA, pleaded guilty to felony charges, including assaulting law enforcement and civil disorder, during the Capitol breach. Ryan Samsel, identified as an instigator of the Capitol breach, was convicted of several felonies, including the assault of USCP officer Caroline Edwards. Federal prosecutors have also urged a judge to deny a request to delay sentencing for another rioter, while the court rejected a request for sentence reduction for defendant Pauline Bauer, who is serving a 27-month prison term. Additionally, five Capitol riot defendants accused of instigating the first breach were found guilty at trial. Sentencing for Patrick O'Brien has begun, a plea hearing is set for February 8 for Ryan Yates, and Devon Archer has been given a deadline to report to prison. Devin McNulty of Tennessee pleaded guilty to assaulting/resisting police, and Edward Richmond has been ordered to report to US Marshals for pretrial detention.
