Gun violence, particularly affecting children, has surged in America since 2020, with Black children experiencing a significantly higher rate of firearm deaths compared to White and Asian children. Lawmakers and organizations are advocating for measures such as universal background checks and a federal assault weapons ban to address this issue. Initiatives like the 'NY-10 Alliance Against Gun Violence' aim to bring together survivors, community organizations, and law enforcement to combat gun violence as a community effort.

Last week, we celebrated $2 million in federal funding for a pilot program focused on addressing this epidemic in our community. https://t.co/CWLNRpzxiz
"Guns became the leading killer of children during the pandemic, with disproportionate impacts on communities of color." This is heartbreaking—and it cannot continue. We owe it to our families to take decisive action to put an end this senseless violence.https://t.co/TtIqvDwala
