Rep. Matt Gaetz and fellow Republicans have introduced a resolution stating that President Donald Trump did not engage in insurrection. The resolution is co-sponsored by more than 60 members of Congress. The resolution would force the House to declare whether Trump engaged in an 'insurrection or rebellion' against the U.S. Trump's lawyer argued at the SCOTUS that the events on January 6, 2021, were a riot, not an insurrection. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson questioned the distinction between insurrection and riot, and Trump's lawyer maintained that it was not an insurrection as defined in Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.
