A series of legislative efforts aimed at enhancing educational opportunities and workforce development have been announced by members of Congress. Representative Henry Cuellar secured $1,300,000 to expand apprenticeships in San Antonio, aiming to bolster the South Texas workforce and economy. Representative Adam Smith introduced a bill to make job training and education programs more accessible for Americans without a four-year degree. In a bipartisan move, Senator Maggie Hassan, alongside Senator Todd Young, introduced a bill to lower college costs and increase completion rates for high school students seeking college credits. Representative Joe Morelle advocated for increased resources for schools and universities to help students achieve their goals. Representative Marie Gluesenkamp Perez highlighted the rising demand for trades and the importance of local investments in these programs. Senator Tim Scott, with Senator Young, championed the MERIT Act to eliminate legacy admissions and promote equal opportunity for all students.
The U.S. is built on freedom and opportunity, giving everyone the chance to work hard to achieve the American Dream. Legacy admissions undermine these uniquely American principles. I'm proud to champion the MERIT Act with @SenToddYoung so all students stand on equal footing. https://t.co/37mh5WdwFg
Demand is on the rise, so it's time the trades made a comeback. It's great to see local investments in these programs – which literally hand young people the tools they need to succeed. I'll keep working to support and elevate these pathways in Congress. https://t.co/M8W7jR4h44
Strengthening educational opportunities and helping young people in our community achieve their goals is one of my top priorities in Congress. To do this, I'm proud to advocate for more resources to support our schools and universities so every student has the chance to thrive.
I introduced a bipartisan bill with @SenToddYoung that will reduce college costs and increase college completion rates for high school students ready to earn college credits. We must do more to give our students the opportunities they need to thrive.
For the millions of Americans who do not obtain a four-year degree after high school, job training and education programs are crucial for creating pathways to high-quality, good-paying jobs. That's why I'm introducing a bill today to make those programs even more accessible. https://t.co/SqiDtEee0n
COMMUNITY FUNDING HIGHLIGHT: I secured $1,300,000 to grow San Antonio-based apprenticeships. These funds will help grow the South Texas workforce and strengthen our economy. In Congress, I will continue to fight for good paying jobs in Texas. https://t.co/GlrS7Tgj7f
