The Allahabad High Court has rejected petitions from the Sunni Central Waqf Board and Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee regarding the ownership dispute between the Gyanvapi Mosque and Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi. The court dismissed all five writ petitions filed by the Muslim side and held that the suit filed in 1991 is not barred by Section 4 of the Places of Worship Act. The court also rejected the mosque management's plea challenging the maintainability of the civil suit. This clears the way for further Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) study at the Gyanvapi mosque, if required.
