The absence of Antonio Gates from the Hall of Fame, despite not yet being inducted, has caused a stir in the sports community. Gates, a six-time all-pro and member of the all-decade team, is considered by many to have been the best tight end in the sport for a solid five years. He scored 67 touchdowns from 2004 to 2010, competing with contemporaries like Calvin Johnson, Randy Moss, and Marvin Harrison. Gates is the all-time career leader in touchdowns for a tight end, with 42 more than Travis Kelce, and was a first-team All-Pro three consecutive times over Tony Gonzalez during Gonzalez's prime. His career achievements include being third all-time in catches and receiving yards among tight ends. The debate has intensified with Andre Johnson's recent Hall of Fame induction before Gates, and comparisons with other tight ends such as Travis Kelce, Tony Gonzalez, Rob Gronkowski, Shannon Sharpe, and Jason Witten are highlighting the various aspects of what makes a tight end great.
Gronk was the best tight end. Kelce might be the greatest. Not sure why people have such a hard time separating these concepts.
Top 5 All-Time Tight Ends according to @gregolsen88 đź‘€ 1. Tony Gonzalez 2. Travis Kelce 3. Rob Gronkowski 4. Shannon Sharpe 5. Jason Witten https://t.co/TdDqnzJ5qO
So, @AntonioGates85 is third all-time in catches and receiving yards among tight ends and is first in touchdown catches. How in the hell does he NOT get into the Hall of Fame as soon as he's eligible? https://t.co/IbvuzFsZG9
Travis Kelce is an amazing TE but why have we all forgotten Tony G? Gonzalez: 14x PB, 6x AP1, 1,325/15,127/111 Kelce: 9x PB, 4x AP1, 907/11,328/74 Kelce has the postseason success but Gonzalez’s durability and longevity should put him higher. Imagine if Gonzalez had Mahomes!
I'm confident Antonio Gates will eventually get in, but still stunned the all-time career TE leader in TDs (42 more than Kelce!) and someone who was first team All-Pro 3 straight times over Tony Gonzalez *in Gonzalez's prime* has to wait
Andre Johnson making the Hall of Fame before Antonio Gates is kinda nuts. I mean, I haven't gone and broken down the numbers or anything. But, yeah. I'd take Gates over Johnson.
Antonio Gates scored 67 TDs from 2014-10 and was constantly among the league leaders when Calvin Johnson, Randy Moss and Marvin Harrison were playing. A mind-boggling HOF snub for the tight end.
Antonio Gates was a 6 time all pro, on the all Decade team. The best TE in the sport for a good 5 years and he isn’t (yet) in the hall of fame? Seriously What in the actual F?
