New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) announced the implementation of reduced speed limits in select areas following the enactment of Sammy’s Law. The new speed limits will target streets near schools, Open Streets, Shared Streets, and new 'Regional Slow Zones' in each borough. Some streets will have speed limits as low as 20 mph, while select streets undergoing redesign for safety will have limits as low as 10 mph. The initiative aims to enhance safety, particularly for young New Yorkers, by addressing traffic violence in high-risk areas. Speed limits as low as 10 and 20 mph will be implemented.
