Several members of the US Congress, including Kevin Hern, Mark Green, Josh Gottheimer, Lois Frankel, and Thomas Tuberville, have been involved in significant stock trading activities, raising concerns about potential conflicts of interest. Kevin Hern, a lawmaker sitting on the House Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources, purchased up to $6,000,000 worth of energy and mining stocks in the past year. Representative Mark Green, a Republican, engaged in shorting the US stock market by buying $50,000 of $SPY $440 puts and later selling them for a minor loss. Representative Josh Gottheimer traded millions of dollars of options in Microsoft while Congress was in session, and also bought war stocks before the Israel and Palestine conflict. Lois Frankel traded banking stocks before the 2023 banking crisis, avoiding a significant drop and then buying another bank's stock before it was publicly announced. Senator Thomas Tuberville disclosed $250k in futures trading in wheat, corn, soy, and cattle in August, while sitting on the Senate Committee for Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, raising concerns about potential influence on agricultural futures via legislation and active trading. The trading activities have sparked debates about the need for transparency and potential conflicts of interest, with some calling for a ban on members of Congress trading stocks.
Members of Congress have no business trading stocks. Ban it.
I actually think they should be allowed to trade. It just needs to be transparent to everyone in the same way insiders at companies trade. Politicians will make money on the deals they run, whether it be in public markets or in private deals. https://t.co/sIl9F4TUd5
If I were a member of congress & I knew what legislation/contracts were going to move forward & I could legally buy & sell stocks… I 100% would… The STOCK (Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge) Act is weak at best So you really think these people aren’t doing that lol?
Senator Thomas Tuberville disclosed $250k in futures trading in wheat, corn, soy and cattle in August. He sits on the Senate Committee for Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry. He literally influences agricultural futures via legislation and is trading it actively.
A US Congressman bought war stocks before the Israel and Palestine conflict. Representative Josh Gottheimer purchased up to $15,000 of Northrop Grumman Corp, $NOC, on Sept 26. Hamas attacked Israel Oct 7. He sits on the National Security Agency and Intelligence Committees.
A Congressman literally traded banking stocks before the 2023 banking crisis. Lois Frankel sold $FRC on March 16th, avoiding the 100% drop. She THEN BOUGHT $JPM, the bank buying FRC on March 22nd. This was before they announced PUBLICLY they were buying $FRC.
Representative Josh Gottheimer is trading millions of dollars of options in Microsoft, $MSFT. In Dec, just disclosed that he purchased & sold up to $25,000,000 in deep ITM MSFT Options with a strike of $160, expirying June 21 2024. He is trading while Congress is in session.
A US politician shorted the US. Representative Mark Green, a Republican, bought $50,000 of $SPY $440 puts, expiring on Jan 19 2024. 25 days later, he sold those puts back for a minor loss. He literally shorted the stock market in America.
