Al Jazeera’s Gaza bureau chief, Wael al-Dahdouh, has left the Palestinian territory after Israeli airstrikes resulted in the deaths of his wife, two sons, a daughter, and a grandson. The violence in Gaza has seen over 100 journalists killed while covering the war, with Israel being accused of using drones to target journalists or seize their equipment. The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), with Sherif Mansour commenting, reported that the number of journalists killed in the first 10 weeks of Israel’s bombardment is unprecedented for a single country over an entire year. Wael Dahdouh has since arrived in Qatar for medical treatment and highlighted the heavy price paid by journalists in a recent address at the January 13 March on Washington for Gaza. Further airstrikes have resulted in the death of the manager of Al Quds Today TV and nine journalists from Palestine Today TV, murdered in one go, bringing the total number of media personnel killed since October 7 to 119.
