Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar has stated that Israel has the right to defend itself and go after Hamas, but he believes that the current situation in Gaza is more than just self-defense and resembles revenge. Varadkar's comments are some of the strongest criticisms of Israel by a leader of a European Union member state. An Austrian member of parliament also expressed support for Israel's right to self-defense and labeled Hamas as a terrorist organization.
