The heads of state of Germany and Britain have expressed regret for their countries' colonial-era atrocities in Africa. In a separate development, Portugal's President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, during his UK visit for British Remembrance Day, rebuked Palestinian Ambassador Nabil Abuznaid for blaming Israel for the recent conflict. Sousa stressed that the conflict was initiated by the Palestinian side, specifically Hamas, and that they should not have started it. He also pointed out that Hamas was aware of the potential repercussions following the October 7th incident.
