Canada, under Foreign Minister Melanie Joly, has imposed sanctions on top Hamas officials, including Yahya Sinwar, the head of the Hamas movement in Gaza, and Mohammed Deif, the commander of the Qassam battalions, in response to the October 7 terrorist attacks on Israel. The sanctions were announced by Canada's Foreign Ministry and target a total of 11 individuals. B’nai Brith Canada has also urged five universities to cancel events with a speaker who endorsed the October 7 attacks.
