Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has come under fire for comments deemed anti-Semitic by Israel's Foreign Affairs Ministry. Lukashenko remarked that out of 30 people charged with corruption in Belarus, 15 were Jewish, questioning whether they held a 'privileged position' in society. These statements have been widely condemned, with Israel's Foreign Minister Israel Katz describing them as 'unacceptable' and 'outrageous,' and labeling them as clear anti-Semitic comments. Lukashenko, however, denied being anti-Semitic despite his remarks. His former assistant, the inspector for the Vitebsk region, former Minister of Agriculture and Food Igor Brylo, is among those implicated.
President Lukashenko’s comment is classic antisemitism. By linking corrupt activity to Jewishness, he invoked the trope of “Jews and money” or that Jews are greedy, used to persecute Jews for centuries. Learn more here: https://t.co/B4vVxP6OAK https://t.co/0LZt4HpKvB

I agree with 🇮🇱 FM @Israel_katz, who described dictator Lukashenka's latest remarks—which blamed Jews for corruption within his regime—as 'unacceptable' & 'outrageous.' He added that they 'sound like clear antisemitic comments.' It's shameful to use hate to cover your own crimes.
Lukashenka's latest anti-Semitic remarks blame Jews for corruption within his government, calling them thieves & threatening their future. His regime is the true source of corruption, not the Jewish community. Such hateful rhetoric is dangerous & must be unequivocally condemned. https://t.co/LJdaN79HPA
Anti-Semitic statement by Lukashenko:“I'm sorry, I'm not anti-Semitic, but more than half of the Jews. Do we have a special, privileged position so that they steal and don't think about their future?” Israel and Jewish communities worldwide should condemn Lukashenko @PinchasRabbi https://t.co/9k1GDi4Mhp
