Several state governments across India, including Assam, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Haryana, have announced a 4% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for their government employees, raising the DA to 50%. This decision, announced by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik, and Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma, comes into effect from January 1, 2024. The Assam government also decided that 4th grade post recruitment will be from the local locality in LP, ME, High School on a merit basis. Meanwhile, the central government has also increased the DA for its employees to 50%. In addition to these financial adjustments, there have been reductions in fuel prices, with the Central Government and the state of Rajasthan cutting petrol and diesel prices by Rs 2 per litre, including a 2% VAT rate reduction in Rajasthan. The Indian Oil Corporation Chairman, Shrikant Madhav Vaidya, indicated that future fuel price adjustments would depend on the trends in crude oil prices.
