India is set to invest $67 billion in the natural gas sector over the next six years, as announced by Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. This investment aims to support the country's infrastructure expansion, including the building of a natural gas network in Kashmir and the northeast, with an investment of $4.95 billion. The 12th City Gas Distribution (CGD) Bidding Round concluded recently, with Puri distributing Letters of Intent to successful bidders. This initiative is expected to triple natural gas consumption by 2030. Additionally, the government has inaugurated three new Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET) in Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh, increasing the total number of CIPETs from 23 to 47 over the last decade. Furthermore, 201 CNG stations have been inaugurated across 17 states, along with India's first Small Scale LNG Unit of Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) at its Vijaipur LPG plant in Madhya Pradesh. These developments are part of efforts to increase the gas component of natural gas in the country from 6% to 15%, aligning with Prime Minister Modi's vision for energy sustainability and reducing the carbon footprint.
