India has inked a significant trade deal with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), including Switzerland, promising an investment of $100 billion over the next 15 years. This agreement, hailed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as one of the most pioneering Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) ever, is expected to create around a million jobs. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted the commitment from EFTA countries, which includes facilitating the entry of Swiss watches and chocolates into the Indian market at lower prices. Additionally, the Norway Minister for Trade and Industry, Jan Christian Vestre, mentioned Norway's existing investments in India, totaling $25 billion, with expectations for growth in the coming years. The deal aims to strengthen economic cooperation and promote investments and job creation, reflecting a significant step towards enhancing bilateral relations between India and the EFTA member countries.
