The Assam Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) issued a notice to the Congress on allegations raised by the BJP of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). The Election Commission of India (ECI) has taken serious note of the repeated violations by senior political functionaries of the Congress, specifically asking the Congress chief to explain steps for compliance with advisories on upholding women's dignity during campaigning. EC issued show cause notices to Congress leaders Randeep Singh Surjewala and Mallikarjun Kharge over comments on BJP leader Hema Malini.
