Ford electric vehicles (EVs) now have the capability to charge at Tesla Supercharger stations, a significant development in the EV industry. This comes after Ford adopted the Tesla charging standard, specifically the J3400, making it the first automaker to do so, with expectations of more to follow. The integration was facilitated by the introduction of a new charging adapter and the development of a North American Charging Standard (NACS) to NACS extension cable by Tesla, aimed at addressing Supercharging issues related to different port locations. Tesla, known for having the largest charging network in the nation with around 15,000 Supercharger stations, is working on making the extension cable available for purchase in the future. The move grants Ford EVs access to a vast charging infrastructure, which is anticipated to become the de facto standard in the coming years. Additionally, a unique road trip experiment involving a Ford Lightning EV and a Tesla vehicle highlighted the practical benefits of this interoperability, with the Ford vehicle being able to use Tesla Superchargers for a 1,000-mile journey from New Jersey to Florida. Joanna Stern of The Wall Street Journal tested the new charging adapter at 10 different locations and spoke exclusively to Ford’s CEO about the development.

When @ElectrifyAm can keep their charging stations operational, the experience is actually pretty great 💁 https://t.co/65hqsdIa09

This is great fun. My pal @tommolog races a Ford Lightning EV pickup from NJ to FL. The other pickup can use Tesla stations, Tom has to use @ElectrifyAm. Pizzas are cooked in truck, a rock star is co-pilot. Great look into life with an EV on a 1000 mile road trip. #Fun https://t.co/6GdO4tu6T0
Last week I raced @itskyleconner 1,000 miles from NJ to Florida in @ford F-150 Lightning. Kyle had to use @Tesla Superchargers with the new NACS adapter, and I charged exclusively on @ElectrifyAm units. Here's my video on the race, Kyle's will come soon. https://t.co/fRd051f8WV https://t.co/gaQCFKChdZ
