The UK is facing a surge in net migration, with figures predicted to reach a record high of 700,000, surpassing the 2022 high of 606,000. The Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) warns that net migration could be 150,000 higher than predicted over the next five years. The Conservative party is divided over the issue, with some expressing concern about the impact on social cohesion and public infrastructure, while others criticize the government's handling of the situation. Former MEP Ben Habib and executive director of the Henry Jackson Society, Alan Mendoza, have both voiced concerns about the sustainability of the current levels of migration. The surge in net migration is attributed to non-EU nationals, with some Tory MPs and ministers acknowledging that the levels are 'too high' and 'unacceptable.'
