A record number of migrants have crossed the English Channel in small boats during the first six months of this year. The crossings have been described as a fresh blow to Rishi Sunak, with 257 people making the journey on a single day due to good weather.
Net migration has more than trebled since the Tories promised to get it down at the last election. Rishi Sunak promised to ‘stop the boats’. More than 40,000 have crossed the Channel since he made that pledge and boat crossings are at a record high this year. #BBCDebate
