The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating two serious incidents involving Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft. In April, Southwest Flight 2786 came within 400 feet of crashing into the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Hawaii after an aborted landing attempt, descending at a rate of 4,000 feet per minute. The Boeing 737 Max 8 returned to Honolulu without any injuries. Additionally, another Southwest flight from Las Vegas to Oklahoma City descended to just 525 feet above a neighborhood in Yukon, Oklahoma, triggering a low-altitude alert from air traffic control at Will Rogers World Airport. Both incidents, one of which involved a 'Dutch roll,' have raised concerns about the safety of the Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft.
