Mastercard has launched its first peer-to-peer (P2P) pilot transaction using the Mastercard Crypto Credential on May 29. This new service allows users to send and receive cryptocurrency, including Bitcoin, using a simple username instead of a complex wallet address. The pilot is being conducted in partnership with the exchange Mercado Bitcoin and is available to users in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, France, and other countries. The service aims to simplify and secure peer-to-peer crypto payments across several European and Latin American countries. Users can now make transactions across different currencies and blockchains using their Mastercard aliases. The pilot includes exchanges such as Bit2Me, Lirium, and Mercado Bitcoin. Mastercard has 1.5 billion debit cards in circulation, and the service is operational in 13 countries.
