National Gun Violence Awareness Month is being observed across the United States with calls for action to address the epidemic of gun violence. Congressional Democrats, including Representatives James Clyburn, Abigail Spanberger, Sara Jacobs, Dina Titus, Jared Huffman, and Becca Balint, as well as Senators Jacky Rosen and Dick Durbin, are advocating for stricter gun safety measures. The White House is urging Congress to ban assault weapons, enact universal background checks, and pass a national red flag law. The epidemic has resulted in 193 mass shootings in 2024 alone, and gun violence is now the leading cause of death for children in America. Various organizations and public figures, including sports teams like the Miami Heat, Chicago Bears, and Golden State Warriors, are participating in Wear Orange Weekend to honor victims and raise awareness. Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker highlighted state actions such as banning assault weapons and investing in public safety. Representative Lucy McBath mentioned the GOSAFEact, and the MomsDemand organization is actively involved. The movement aims to prevent further tragedies and ensure safer communities. Gun violence claims 117 Americans daily, and Las Vegas is among the many communities affected.
On #GunViolenceAwarenessDay, we honor the lives we’ve lost to horrific acts of violence. Incredibly proud of how our historic Bipartisan Safer Communities Act saves lives, limits future tragedies, and gives AZ families peace of mind.🧡

ICYMI: I joined @MomsDemand for Gun Violence Awareness Month to stress the importance for parents, no matter their political party, to stand up for our kids' safety. We need commonsense legislation to ensure gun owners are competent and qualified. Our communities depend on it. https://t.co/ln4FKD7h9s
The American people deserve to live free from the horror of gun violence. The #GOSAFEact honors our constitutional rights while keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of those who shouldn't have them. Thank you @SenatorHeinrich and @SenAngusKing for your partnership.
This National #GunViolenceAwarenessMonth, we remember and honor those who have lost their lives to gun violence and the families left broken by tragedy. The Council is deeply committed to keeping our communities safe and supporting victims with the services they need to heal. https://t.co/k17yOTkhqg

Gun violence affects everyone, and during National Gun Violence Awareness Month, we recognize the heartbreaking toll that gun violence takes on our communities and recommit to ending gun violence. https://t.co/NYcs5BSy7v
It’s National Gun Violence Awareness Month. Gun violence is a public health crisis, and now it’s the leading cause of death for kids. That is unacceptable. I’ll keep pushing my GOP colleagues to join us to pass additional, commonsense measures to curb gun violence.
During National Gun Violence Awareness Month, we remember all the innocent people killed and families impacted because our current gun laws do not keep our communities safe. It's long past time Congress listens to the vast majority of Americans who are demanding gun safety laws.
There have already been 193 mass shootings in 2024 - that’s more than the number of days in the year so far. Gun violence is a solvable crisis, and Congress needs to act. #NationalGunViolenceAwarenessMonth https://t.co/ntOxLqaCNk

During Gun Violence Awareness Month, I'm honoring those whose lives were tragically cut short by this epidemic. Nevadans know all too well the impact gun violence has on communities. We must recommit ourselves to ending gun violence so no family has to ever be affected again.
This #GunViolenceAwarenessMonth, we remember the victims of gun violence here at home in Las Vegas and in far too many communities across the U.S. Join me in pledging to end this epidemic once and for all. #WearOrange
In 2024, it feels like nearly every community has been shattered by gun violence and mass shootings. And now we’re knowingly passing this trauma on to the next generations. This #GunViolencePreventionMonth, we need to take action to save lives. https://t.co/DY3n5oRpfN
Gun violence is the number one killer of children in the United States. This National Gun Violence Awareness Month, I’m working to address the gun violence epidemic that plagues our nation. Because no Virginian and no American should fear gun violence in their community.
Each day, roughly 117 Americans die from gun violence. That’s 117 senseless – and preventable – deaths. We deserve to live without fear of gun violence. Congressional Democrats are committed to ending this epidemic once and for all.#NationalGunViolenceAwarenessMonth
