Darien Harris, a Chicago man who spent over 12 years in prison for a murder he was wrongfully convicted of, is suing the city of Chicago, the Chicago Police Department, and seven officers. Harris was convicted in 2014 for a fatal shooting at a South Side gas station in 2011, based in part on testimony from a legally blind eyewitness. He was freed in December after a private investigator found evidence that the key witness had lied about his eyesight issues. Harris was serving a 76-year sentence. The federal civil rights lawsuit alleges that Harris' wrongful conviction was caused by the 'egregious misconduct' of Chicago police.
