Tropical Storm Beryl has formed and is showing signs of rapid intensification. According to the Automated Tropical Cyclone Forecasting (ATCF), Beryl has consistent cloud top temperatures around -90°C and a 35-45% chance of intensification by 25-35 knots over the next 24-36 hours as it heads towards the Lesser Antilles. Recent AMSU and AMSR microwave passes indicate the development of an eyewall around Beryl's center of circulation, suggesting further intensification. The storm's vortex appears slightly tilted southwestward due to easterly wind shear, but the formation of an inner core and shallow-topped convection underneath indicate that substantial intensification is likely. Beryl, formerly known as Tropical Depression 2 (#TD2), has continued to organize and intensify over the last 12 hours.
A later microwave pass from AMSR similarly shows #Beryl possesses a formative eyewall under the hood, which is likely open on the N-NE (upshear) side of the circulation. However, shallow-topped convection is lurking/building underneath (right image) & may eventually round out… https://t.co/41hlQW547s https://t.co/3f3vkkyVNi
Cool to see this structure on the high resolution AMSR2 imager this afternoon (from NRL). There remains some subtle vortex tilt with Beryl here as a result of nagging easterly wind shear, but with an evident eyewall, it seems likely that substantial intensification is coming. https://t.co/LCwd6E9dPG https://t.co/i4HOUT63Gp
Tropical Storm #Beryl (formerly #TD2) has continued to organize and intensify over the last 12 hours, with an inner core now forming in satellite imagery. The vortex appears to be slightly tilted southwestward with height, similar to this morning's HAFS model depictions, but this… https://t.co/2JWl69usEZ
An AMSU microwave pass over Tropical Storm #Beryl from ~ 3 hours ago showed an eyewall beginning to develop around #Beryl's center of circulation. This is very likely a precursor to much more rapid intensification. 👀👀👀 https://t.co/egXnBuqAJD
#tropicswx: Tropical Storm #Beryl has formed per ATCF and it's looking quite healthy with consistent cloud top temperatures around -90°C at times. There is currently a 35-45% chance of rapid intensification of 25-35 kts over the next 24-36hrs as it heads towards the Lesser… https://t.co/CpE9QNsYpj
