Shelf clouds have been spotted in various locations across South Carolina and North Carolina, including Columbia, Hardeeville, Savannah, Lumberton, and St. Pauls. These impressive cloud formations were captured by different individuals and are associated with thunderstorms moving through the region. While the shelf clouds may appear ominous, no reports of damaging winds have been noted so far.
Look at this shelf cloud in Greensboro today from @josephanavin Rain-cooled air advances ahead of a downpour or a thunderstorm. This forces warm air to rise, cool and condense. The result is a scary-looking cloud. Damaging winds can happen sometimes, but wasn't the case today. https://t.co/INSktwCAoT
