The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has approved Mayor London Breed's $25 million fundraising plan to bring two pandas from China to the San Francisco Zoo. The resolution, passed by a 9-2 vote, allows city departments to solicit donations from private entities, including those doing business with the city. Mayor Breed is seeking contributions from major corporations such as Apple, Salesforce, DoorDash, Lyft, and OpenAI, as well as wealthy individuals and families, including the family of one of her challengers in the upcoming November election. Supervisor Aaron Peskin voted against the plan. However, the plan faces opposition from several animal rights groups.
