Iraq is actively expanding its oil sector with multiple development projects and aims to increase its oil reserves to 160 billion barrels, as announced by the Oil Minister in a live event. The country has launched a licensing round for 29 oil and gas projects, attracting bids from both local and international firms. Notably, China's ZPEC has won the bid to develop the northern extensions of the East Baghdad oil field, and Iraq's KAR Group has been awarded development rights for the Dima field in Maysan Province. Additionally, Geo Jade and Hilal al-Basra are considering the development of the Tuba field in Basra, which could become a significant project. Iraq supports OPEC's efforts to stabilize markets and plans to shift 40% of its oil output to petrochemical projects within the next decade.
