The Indian cabinet has approved the establishment of four semiconductor plants, including the country's first semiconductor fabrication unit by Tata Electronics, a Tata Group company, in collaboration with Taiwan's PSMC in Dholera, Gujarat. This initiative, part of India's efforts to boost its semiconductor ecosystem, involves a significant investment by Tata Group amounting to Rs 91,000 crore and marks the establishment of the country's first pure-play foundry. Construction of these plants is expected to start within the next 100 days, as announced by Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The move is seen as a major step towards self-reliance in semiconductor production and is anticipated to significantly contribute to the development of India's semiconductor and display manufacturing ecosystem.
