As the world prepares for the Paris 2024 Olympics, the House Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, led by Rep. Jeff Duncan and Rep. Kat Cammack, is examining allegations of mass Chinese cheating in the last Olympic Games. Olympians Michael Phelps and Allison Schmitt provided testimonies at a Congressional hearing on anti-doping. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has been criticized for failing to enforce a level playing field, particularly in its handling of 23 Chinese swimmers who failed drug tests. Despite testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs, eleven of these athletes have been deemed eligible for the 2024 Olympics. U.S. Representatives, including Rep. Morgan Griffith and Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, have called for greater accountability and transparency from WADA to ensure fairness in sports.
WADA has lost the confidence of a lot of top athletes because of its handling of 23 Chinese swimmers failing drugs test. It says it's satisfied it was "mass contamination". This attack by WADA on the US just highlights that they just don't get it https://t.co/ZlrJ0yb5IH
The last Olympic games in Tokyo featured swimmers competing for China who tested positive for performing-enhancing drugs. Yet eleven of the same athletes from China have been deemed eligible for the 2024 Olympics. We need answers. https://t.co/vQKhk7OlVM
If 23 Americans had tested positive for banned substances, I’m pretty sure the United States would have been investigated – unlike CHINA! Don’t you agree? How many more Olympic athletes have to lose out on winning medals and proudly singing their country’s national anthem before the World Anti-Doping Agency decides to enforce its rules uniformly? @wada_ama must be accountable for their lack of transparency & poor decision making. https://t.co/Y2G0Qy35al
We are one month away from the @Olympics and it is critical all athletes commit to playing fair and clean. Watch as I ask @MichaelPhelps and @arschmitty about the importance of a level playing field and rules that should apply across the board 👇 https://t.co/4rYptQAjUS
During last night's @HouseCommerce hearing on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Rep. Cammack got into how other nations, including China, have used their athletes to get ahead on the global stage, especially through subverting testing rules. Take a look. 👇 https://t.co/IHbe1VKfck
A fairly-enforced level playing field is necessary to protect integrity in sports. But the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has failed to uphold this principle in its testing of Olympic athletes. My remarks w/ U.S. Olympic swimmers Michael Phelps and Allison Schmitt this evening. https://t.co/WqVtV1Os4E
