U.S. lawmakers and federal agencies are emphasizing the importance of cybersecurity for the nation's water systems. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), in partnership with @EPAWater, has developed a Water Sector Cybersecurity toolkit providing guidance on incident response, vulnerability scanning, and setting cybersecurity performance goals. @RepDeluzio is advocating for more attention on this issue from Capitol Hill and has urged the Energy and Commerce Committee (@EnergyCommerce) to equip the EPA with the necessary tools and resources to support water sector resilience against cyber threats. This follows a recent cyberattack on the Aliquippa Water Authority, highlighting the urgency to protect critical water infrastructure. Representative Moulton has also expressed concerns over Chinese cyberattacks threatening critical infrastructure, including water sanitation centers, and the need for collaboration with state and local legislators to defend against such threats. The House Subcommittee on Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Materials, chaired by Representative Buddy Carter, has begun a hearing focused on the cybersecurity of America's drinking water systems, as announced on @HouseCommerce. Frank Pallone noted the increasing frequency and sophistication of cyberattacks, underscoring the need for the EPA to be well-equipped to respond to threats targeting water systems.
Cyberattacks have become more frequent and sophisticated, putting our nation’s critical infrastructure at risk. This is especially true for incidents targeting our water systems, so today in @EnergyCommerce, we examined how best to ensure @EPA has the tools it needs to respond. https://t.co/ZHFcsujmh3
🚨 TUNE IN: 2:00pm marks the start of my first @HouseCommerce hearing as Chair of the Subcommittee on Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Materials. Today’s focus is on ensuring the cybersecurity of America’s drinking water systems. 📺 ⬇️ https://t.co/NOBkbI5p07
Chinese cyber attacks don't just threaten national security, they threaten our electric grids, water sanitation centers, and other critical infrastructure. We need to work with state and local legislators to ensure they are prepared to defend against network threats from abroad. https://t.co/rlzxRawe6m
An attack on our critical infrastructure like Aliquippa Water Authority is dangerous, & Congress must do all it can to help local water systems defend against cyber attacks. Ahead of their hearing, I wrote @EnergyCommerce on the urgency of protecting our water from cyberattacks. https://t.co/xcskHGpHZ1
.@RepDeluzio wants more Hill focus on cybersecurity for water. He's asking E&C leaders to give EPA "the tools and resources it needs to support and coordinate with the water sector to prepare for and build resilience against risks like cyber threats." https://t.co/yIaYmuYMmH https://t.co/pzylxLYA6r
The Water Sector Cybersecurity toolkit provides guidance on incident response, vulnerability scanning services, cybersecurity performance goals and more. Thanks to our partners at @EPAWater who worked with us to develop this resource. https://t.co/pl5Q5bnZjy https://t.co/0JD8lA8nZd
