A Chinese company has announced a significant breakthrough in chipmaking technology with the development of a lithography tool capable of working on 28nm process nodes. This development comes as Intel is reported to be acquiring six out of ten high numerical aperture (high-NA) Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) lithography tools produced by ASML next year. ASML has confirmed the shipment of its first high-NA lithography system to Intel. These advanced lithography tools, which are essential for manufacturing next-generation process nodes, are estimated to cost around $400 million each.
