U.S. lawmakers are taking action against the purchase of American farmland by foreign entities, especially China. Representative Feenstra held a Farm Bill town hall with Iowa farmers in Treynor and Harrison County, where concerns were voiced about China acquiring U.S. farmland. Feenstra introduced a bill, which passed the House last March, to ban China from such purchases. Representative Bost co-introduced the AFIDA Improvements Act of 2024, with @FarmBureau's endorsement, to protect U.S. farmland as a matter of national security. Representative Schrier introduced the PACA Act to assist farmers in climate resiliency efforts. Senators Braun and Tester are advocating for legislation to better track and limit foreign farmland sales, with Tester's bill being bipartisan, to protect the U.S. food supply chain. Senators Ernst and Baldwin have also emphasized the importance of protecting critical agricultural land from foreign investors.
I had a great time meeting with our local farmers from @ILStewards today! Thanks for coming out to discuss how we can work together to get our Farm Bill priorities over the finish line. 🚜 https://t.co/acV1ArRrex
Last week, I held a Farm Bill town hall with #IA04 farmers in Treynor as part of my #FeenstraAgricultureTour. I reiterated that we’re working hard to pass a strong Farm Bill for Iowa and noted that my bill to ban China from buying American farmland passed the House last March. https://t.co/9ya4su03Zp
One of the best things about campaigning is getting the chance to meet incredible patriots from across our beautiful state. The people of Green Valley couldn't have been kinder! I'm so thankful to everyone who came out & made the @CPAC Border Town Hall with @mschlapp &… https://t.co/e1a4DVsUEG
When foreign investors buy up our farmland, it can jeopardize our local economies, food supply, and national security. That’s why I’m working with Democrats and Republicans to ensure Americans know exactly who’s buying our agricultural land. https://t.co/0AOJrAXuLo
Farmland is one of the most precious resources we have as Americans. I’m fighting to protect our critical #ag land from bad actors and improve how we track foreign land investments. https://t.co/PNGmQzJYpu
I believe that American farmland belongs to American farmers. That's why I introduced legislation — which passed the House last March — to BAN China from buying American farmland. #IA04
Last week, on my #FeenstraAgricultureTour, I met with the Harrison County Farm Bureau to discuss the need to pass a strong Farm Bill for #IA04. We also talked about my bill — which passed the House last March — to ban China from buying American farmland. https://t.co/DJP9BjijdR
We need policy changes to better track who is buying up our farmland and to crack down on bad actors like China who want to get a foothold on American soil. I've got a new bipartisan bill to make sure we have the data we need to keep foreign adversaries far from our food system. https://t.co/qylAL0zYrM
Thank you to @FarmBureau for endorsing my AFIDA Improvements Act -- This bill will fix the gaps in how we monitor sales of American farmland to foreign countries and protect our food supply chain.
Last year, I made nearly 30 stops on my first-ever #FeenstraAgricultureTour to meet with #IA04 producers and ag businesses. This month, I relaunched my agriculture tour because we need to ensure that our farmers have a seat at the table when the Farm Bill is written and passed.
Supporting our ag community is a top priority of mine, which is why I introduced the PACA Act today. This bill will help our farmers to voluntarily strengthen their climate resiliency, contribute to climate solutions, and improve their bottom line. https://t.co/AoJ80qgYTJ
Protecting U.S. farmland from being gobbled up by foreign adversaries is a matter of national security. That is why I co-introduced the AFIDA Improvements Act of 2024 today.
During a recent Farm Bill town that I held in Treynor, #IA04 farmers reiterated their grave concerns that China is buying our farmland. I share those concerns. That's why I introduced legislation — which passed the House last March — to ban China from buying American farmland.
