In a recent report, Google, in collaboration with Mandiant, revealed a significant increase in zero-day vulnerabilities in 2023, with a 50% surge from the previous year, and a 64% surge in enterprise tech specifically. The study, conducted by Google's Threat Analysis Group (TAG) and Mandiant, found 97 zero-day exploits, marking a notable rise from 62 in 2022. The report highlighted that a substantial number of these vulnerabilities were linked to cyber espionage groups, with many being attributed to actors based in China. Additionally, it was noted that 48 of the exploits were used by espionage actors, and 10 had financial motives. Google's CEO Sundar Pichai noted the good news that investments in cybersecurity are making a difference, with vulnerabilities that were once common now being virtually non-existent.
