Chicago bakeries are offering paczki for Fat Tuesday 2024, a Polish tradition to enjoy these pastries before Ash Wednesday. The tradition started as a way to use up eggs, sugar, fruit, and lard before Lent. This tradition is also celebrated in Poland, where it's known as Fat Thursday. Consul General Kubicki and Consul Starnawski visited City Hall in New York to share pączki on Fat Thursday with Mayor Holden.
Thank you @PLinNewYork, Consul General @Kubicki_Adrian, and Consul Starnawski for visiting City Hall to share some delicious pączki on Fat Thursday! This last Thursday before Ash Wednesday is when many Catholics, especially Poles, indulge in sweets before Lent's fasting begins. https://t.co/mxqWrV8swI
