Following the third set of UK-US air strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen, UK Foreign Secretary and Defence Secretary Grant Shapps have both issued statements regarding the situation. The Foreign Secretary implored the Houthis to stop their 'reckless' attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea. Shapps, addressing MPs in the House of Commons, stated that the strikes had a 'significant effect on degrading Houthi capabilities' but acknowledged that the group's desire to disrupt shipping has not been fully diminished. 'We urge the Houthis and all those who enable them to stop these illegal & unacceptable attacks,' Shapps said, adding that the UK is prepared to respond again in self-defence if necessary. He also stated that 'appeasing the Houthis today will not lead to a more stable Red Sea.' The shadow defence secretary, John Healey, questioned whether the three one-off strikes signify a sustained campaign and suggested that the Prime Minister should be addressing the House on this matter.
